Standox is backing the results of a new survey by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) which reveals some paint sprayers are still putting their long-term health at risk. Jodie Henly, Standox Brand Marketing Specialist added, “We feel very strongly that everyone in the industry needs to take all reasonable steps to preserve their health and we have made available a suite of tools to help bodyshops achieve this.”

Individual repair processes for different colours, models or coat build-ups are rapidly growing in number and importance says Standox. “Only a couple of years ago it was a question of using the right colour and the right materials. Application technique was much the same for all vehicles,” reveals Jodie Henly, Standox Marketing Specialist. Now there are a growing number of special effect colours, multi-layer finishes and different substrates appearing on vehicles. “Perhaps the biggest change is that these materials and finishes are appearing on every day vehicles, not just the exotic super cars of a few years back,” said Jodie. Refinishers are now much more likely to come across them on a regular basis.

Bare metal, iron and sheet steel need to be treated immediately to prevent corrosion. New Standox 2K Metal Stopper allows the easy preparation of substrates such as these before painting. This is especially true of areas that are especially subject to corrosion such as welded body seams and partially repaired panels, though this new material should not be applied directly to galvanised surfaces.

Every week new formulations are added to the Standox online colour database. Now to make colour matching even more accurate they can be imported directly into Standowin, the popular colour search program from Standox, using the internet. This means that simple errors, such as transposed numbers, can no longer occur from misreading figures on a screen or mis-typing individual formulations.

One in four new cars across the world is silver. That makes silver the most popular car colour in the world (25 percent), followed by black with a market share of 22 percent and white with 16 percent. In the current ranking of the most popular automotive colours, grey takes the fourth position with a market share of 13 percent. According to part two of the Standox Colour Trend Report 2010, called Automotive Color Popularity – Global, more than three quarters of all cars sold around the globe are achromatic. Standox analyses the major colour preferences every year to note trends early and to supply the required refinishing materials for future OEM colours before they are needed.
