Bare metal, iron and sheet steel need to be treated immediately to prevent corrosion. New Standox 2K Metal Stopper allows the easy preparation of substrates such as these before painting. This is especially true of areas that are especially subject to corrosion such as welded body seams and partially repaired panels, though this new material should not be applied directly to galvanised surfaces.
The stopper consists of a high-quality 2K metal stopper powder and a liquid hardener. After mixing, it is easy to apply pore-free layers. Thanks to its good filling power and excellent adhesion, it is particularly suitable for use on welded seams (cleaned and sanded steel sheet), around grooves and over rivets. After adding the hardener, the material can be worked for around four to six minutes at room temperature, sufficient for more than one repair area. After through-hardening, the area may be dry sanded. For best results Standox recommends combined air drying (15-20 minutes) and additional IR drying (15-20 minutes) at maximum of 80°C. The metal stopper improves the corrosion resistance of the repair and provides good cohesion for subsequent painting.
The new metal stopper does not require the high temperatures otherwise needed for tin-plating, which may result in warped and mismatched parts. This is also important in view of the trend in OEM production towards using a variety of different steel alloys on the same vehicle body.
New Standox 2K metal stopper is available now in a complete kit consisting of metallic powder and liquid hardener, mixing can, spoon and spatula.
